Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body. It’s stronger than bone and is made up almost entirely of minerals. Though it’s pretty strong, that doesn’t make it unbreakable. Even with all the strength, a simple bite into an apple or playing your favorite sport can result in a chip, crack, or another issue and dental bonding may be necessary.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a simple procedure that can repair a damaged tooth. The technique consists of applying natural-looking dental material to your tooth as a means of repair. Unlike other restorative or cosmetic dentistry treatments, dental bonding is much less invasive and requires little to no downtime!

When Is Dental Bonding Used?

When you’re looking to improve your smile, dental bonding may come across as the easiest and most affordable of all your options. Dental bonding can be used when you’re trying to address:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Misshapen teeth

We typically only recommend dental bonding when there is no severe decay, damage, infection, or misalignment with a patient’s smile.

Dental Bonding Process

If you’re considering dental bonding, you may be thrilled to learn there is no preparation for bonding. The dental bonding process is pretty simple. During your appointment, our team will work closely with you to choose the best color of dental material for your teeth. Once selected, a slight etch on the surface of your tooth to roughen the enamel will occur.

After etching, a liquid will be applied to help the bonding. The material is then shaped and pressed onto the tooth and reshaped as necessary. Once shaped, the material is hardened with a special light and filed and polished to blend with the natural teeth.
